Scissor Lift / Aerial Lift Platform Training Program

Course Objective

Our scissor and aerial lift platform training provides participants with a general knowledge and understanding of the safe and efficient operation of “Power Operated Mobile Work Platforms” under OHSA and ANSI regulations. Once training is completed, the participants will be able to recognize specific health and safety related hazards associated with operating scissor and aerial lifts.

We bring our program to your facility customizing it as needed so your operators can safely and efficiently operate your equipment in your workplace. This course has two components – a classroom session covering the theory of safe and efficient operation that is followed by a practical evaluation of the operator's ability to operate your equipment.

Classroom Course Content

  • Understanding OHSA and ANSI regulations.
  • Required and recommended review of “fall arrest”.
  • Pre-shift equipment inspection and work area inspections prior to use of the lift.
  • Examining all site-specific hazards and controls for the safe operation of a man-lift.
  • Examining all equipment requirements such as load capabilities and safety decals.
  • Reviewing important fundamentals for safe operation of scissor and aerial lifts, such as operating on level surfaces, operation within capacity limitations, minimum safe approach distances to live electrical transmission lines, weather considerations when operating outside, etc.

Course Objectives (Practical Session)

  • Complete a pre-shift check of the aerial platform that covers inspection of the lift for damage, loose or missing parts, examination of hoses and cables for damage and leaks, adequate fluid levels, smooth operation of all controls, position of outriggers or pothole guards, manufacturer recommended items, etc.
  • Inspection and Use of fall arrest equipment.
  • Operation of the lift including driving, positioning and elevating the platform while complying with capacity limit of machine and maximum slope considerations.
  • Our trainer will complete a written evaluation of each operator’s skills.
